Inspiration Prompt – Make The Most Out Of Your Present

Monday, September 14th, 2009

TimeTime is illusive. It always slips away. Always on the move and always at the exact same pace.

We, however, treat time as a constant. We take time for granted and assume it will always be there for us.

This is how our mind tricks us… We know the facts but act oppositely.

We want to call our parents and tell them how much we love them. We want to meet a friend for coffee and laugh. We want to send a card to an old colleague of ours. We want to scrap all the photos from our last vacation. We want to go to the orchard and take photos of the citruses.

We want to do all these things when we will have some more time.

In the meantime, we flip through another magazine. Time passes by. We watch another episode. Time doesn’t stop. We go through Twitter again. Time keeps on running away.

Do we really need more time or do we just need to decide THIS IS THE TIME and make the most out of our present?

“There are many fine things which you mean to do some day,
under what you think will be more favorable circumstances.
But the only time that is surely yours is the present,
hence this is the time to speak the word of appreciation and sympathy, to do the generous deed,
to forgive the fault of a thoughtful friend, to sacrifice self a little more for others.

Today is the day in which to express your noblest qualities of mind and heart,
to do at least one worthy thing which you have long postponed, and to use your God-given abilities for the enrichment of some less fortunate fellow traveler”

Grenville Kleiser, 1868-1953

Inspiration Prompt – Live Life Actively and Powerfully

Monday, September 7th, 2009

Live Life Actively and PowerfullyMany times life happens so quickly that we feel like we just passively watch life goes by. We feel out of control and overwhelmed. We feel any action we may take will be a drop in the ocean, completely useless. We resign.

But that isn’t true my friends.

Taking control over life or letting life take control over us is a decision we make and not a state we get into.

We have full control. All we need is to empower ourselves to take control.

If we think we can do it than we will do it. If we think we are too weak, too small, too _____ [fill in the blank with a diminishing adjective] then we will keep on watching life goes by and remain unsatisfied and constantly disappointed.

Take a look at my niece (in the pink dress) taking control and ruling the dance floor. She doesn’t wait for permission. She doesn’t need dancing lessons. She does not need a title nor a degree. If she feels like dancing with complete and utter joy – she dances and sweeps everyone with her in a swirl of happiness.

We were all once like that. We were all once kids.

We were happy. We did not think about faith, destiny or ‘the rules’. We were not bothered by how things are supposed to be. We took control and lived actively and powerfully.

I have noticed even people who claim everything is predestined, and that we can do nothing to change it, look before they cross the road.

Stephen William Hawking

Just like looking before crossing the road, we can control any other step we take in life. The secret is to take one step at the time and take over the dance floor.

Inspiration Prompt – Life Happens

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Me in Las Vegas - Life Happens I think that this life lesson fits perfectly with my two months absence form Creativity Prompt. No matter how well or how badly I plan – life happens eventually.

At first I wanted some time off so I can get ready for my first workshop “Capture Your Dream“. But even after the workshop started and went on fabulously, I still needed some more time to recollect my thoughts and find my focus again. In other words, life happened.

I will soon reopen the registration for the workshop, as a self-paced workshop and I am also going to reveal a few more workshops in the coming months.

In the meantime, Creativity Prompt will resume its regular schedule of an Inspiration Prompt each Monday, a Journaling Prompt each Wednesday and a Creativity Prompt each Friday.

Going back to regular posting after a long pause isn’t easy. This quote by Philip Gulley has inspired me to do so:

Too many times we pray for ease, but that’s a prayer seldom met. What we need to do is pray for roots that reach deep into the Eternal, so when the rains fall and the winds blow, we won’t be swept asunder.

To that I will add these three pointers – that has been helping me time and again:

  • Breathe. The long pause has fed the monster of self doubt and self criticism and it planted fear and overwhelmingness inside us. A deep breathe will cleanse the poison and calm us down.
  • Lose the negativity. After we have washed away the toxicity we should take care of the monster’s long arms: shame, fear, high expectations and perfectionism. We can banish those calamities by filling ourselves with belief, self acceptance and permission to simply be.
  • Find focus and thrill. Our body is clean and is radiating with positivity. Now is the time to take a moment, contemplate. Find what drives us. Rekindle our passion and focus on everything that is good about our path which we came back to and started striding on again.

Inspiration Prompt – Don’t Quit

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Inspiration Prompt - Don't QuitOftentimes embarking on a new journey, especially when taking the road less traveled, incites apprehension and fear. After the first curve in the road when the start point is already hidden and the final destination is far from being seen the anxiety worsens and the tension increases.

With each hurdle a wee bit of the initial motivation gets lost and after a few more of these bumps-in-the-road the motivation may be decreased to a faint mumble.

This is when thoughts about quitting are starting to afloat.

In this week’s inspiration prompt I suggest instead that we stop, take a gulp of air and recall what was it that sent us running in the first place? What led us to the starting point? What made our heart pulse faster? What made us smile? What made us believe in our journey?

To inspire you to continue your journey I want to share a video by Anthony Fernando:

Inspiration Prompt – Life’s Teachers

Monday, June 29th, 2009

For this week’s inspiration prompt I want to share a beautiful quote by Charlotte Joko Beck:

“Life always gives us
exactly the teacher we need
at every moment.
This includes every mosquito,
every misfortune,
every red light,
every traffic jam,
every obnoxious supervisor (or employee),
every illness, every loss,
every moment of joy or depression,
every addiction,
every piece of garbage,
every breath.

Every moment is the Guru.”

Truly inspiring!!!

Testimonials

  • “Sad not to be getting any more of your e-mails. I am still working on my mini album and will let you know when I post on my blog. Just wanted to let you know that I learned a lot of new techniques from your course. I don’t like to sew, so I adapted those parts and did with paper instead. Also, I feel like I now have an organized plan for my dream which is one of the most difficult parts to do. Sometimes you just don’t know how to actually begin to do something. Putting it down on paper helped me a lot.”
  • “It was wonderful and I recommend it to EVERYONE! You are fantastic … always quick with a kind word … and help! Thanks so much!”
  • “Today I was looking through my childhood memories when my 12 year old daughter joined me. It was so nice to share these memories and my dreams with her. A wonderful side effect of the workshop!”

Inspiration Prompt – Love Is Like A Precious Plant

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Inspiration Prompt - Love Is Like A Precious Plant The “wedding season” has arrived… Nadav and I also got married in June – two years ago, and the love between us is still growing and thriving.

Romance is an inspiring and motivating force. Love is even more wonderful as it surrounds our lives in so many ways. Granted, we love our significant other; but we also love our family, we love our friends, we love watching the sunrise at dawn.

As with our sweethearts so with the rest of our “objects of love”, a relationship based upon love needs constant cultivating and grooming. It does not sustain itself, but it gives back so much in return. The reward is worth all the hard work. It is absolutely PRICELESS.

For this week’s inspiration prompt, be inspired by love. Love and be loved…

John Lennon had said it beautifully:

Love is like a precious plant. You can’t just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it’s going to get on by itself. You’ve got to keep on watering it. You’ve got to really look after it and nurture it.

Inspiration Prompt – Work Hard And Plant A Seed In The World

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Plant A Seed In The World The harder you work to achieve something, the deeper is the imprint your achievement is going to leave.

If something comes easily to you, the slightest piece of criticism or a snappy remark can shatter your confidence and destroy your sense of accomplishment. Deep inside you may think that if you didn’t make a real effort, maybe your deed isn’t so great after all.

However, after you worked hard to accomplished something – no one will be able to take that accomplishment away from you. No one will be able to belittle your success and make you doubt your merit.

The seed you have planted has rooted and you KNOW you have achieved something GREAT.

Have a fabulous day!

Inspiration Prompt – The Domino Effect

The Domino Effect

Creativity pertains to the domino effect on two different levels.

First. The domino effect represents a state of flow. After the first tile has dropped, the entire line of tiles is falling, one-by-one, until there is no tile left standing.

So is working in a state of creative flow. After the first couple of awkward lines has been put onto the paper or the first couple of sentences has been typed, there is no stop until a masterpiece emerges.

Second. The domino effect also represents a creative way to deal with mishaps or accidental occurrences. A whole new game (and perhaps a sport) evolved by chance. I remember my grandmother and grandfather used to play domino on the big dining room table, only instead of laying the tiles horizontally they laid it vertically. Looking at them playing, I can imagine how the falling dominoes game was invented…

So are many creative projects. One mistake. One wrong stroke, over heating or mixing the wrong materials can bring to wonderful creations of fine art.

For this week’s inspiration prompt I suggest to derive inspiration from the domino effect. We can benefit both from its representation of creative flow and of dealing with mishaps creatively.

This prompt was inspired by one of my readers – Alexander Gartley – who made this wonderful project, together with his co-workers, to promote a creativity and innovation festival at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where they work:

Enjoy the domino effect and get creative!

Inspiration Prompt – Keep On Trying and Don’t Be afraid To Get Help

Keep On Trying

Whether we ask for it or not life has in store for us an abundance of challenges. As long as we are trying we will never fail. As long as we believe in our ability to overcome – we will succeed. Though there is one thing we should learn how to do and it is to allow ourselves to get help.

Getting help from a friend or a kind person is not failure, it is the means to success.

Every problem has its solution and some problems can be solved only by mutual work. Getting help doesn’t mean we are unable to solve the problem. It merely means we have identified the solution and it includes another person in it.

Be open. Be hopeful and optimistic. Keep on trying and don’t refuse a helping hand.

I saw this video on You Tube and it conveys this inspiration prompt wonderfully:
