And Yet Another Card Set – I have Many People To Gift…

April 13th, 2011

card set

This set is without a greeting because I actually use these cards for the gifts I am giving everyone, so a generic greeting won’t do. I want to write a personal greeting for each person. This is how I roll…
card set

This card set is probably the simplest of them all.

All I did was to cut a piece of cardstock (3½” by 1½”), then punch out 3 pinking circles from the Emma’s Shoppe’s collection by Crate Paper (it’s such a cute collection).

I adhered the three punched pieces to the cardstock using 2-way glue and sew over it [I used the 2-way glue to make sure the adhesive won’t clump the sewing machine].

I secured the ends of the threads with regular tape and rounded the corners, then adhered to the cardstock base.

That is all.

Isn’t it simple?

Quick Share – Another Card Set

April 11th, 2011

Card Set

I made another card set to give away to my family.

For this set I stamped a partial imprint of Hero Arts’ Dandelion Frame cling stamp. To do that I laid the stamp on the table, facing up and inked it with VersaMark ink. Then I took the piece of cardstock (3½” by 1½”) and laid it on top of the inked stamp and pressed on it gently with my fingers to make sure the ink transfered properly.

Then I covered the image with clear embossing powder and melted it with a heating tool.

Then I aded a strip of American Crafts ribbon to the edge of the carstock piece.

Next I sewed the top edges of the ribbon strip and secured the ends of the threads with regular tape.

Then I rounded all the corner with We R Memory Keepers corner chomper (which I had to help a little with my precision scissors, because it had to go through the ribbon) and adhered it all to the top left of my pre-printed card.

Super easy.

100% Recycled

April 6th, 2011

recycled notebook

Let me go with you through the process of making that tiny stitched notebook.

It happened before I purchased the huge scrapbook.com order

My husband was away for work and I was bored.

I pulled up my scraps basket, which contains scraps of patterned papers and cardstock as well as old envelopes, pieces of boxes and other junque.

I pulled out my sewing machine and blew away a cloud of dust that covered it [hmm…], threaded it and hooked it up.

I played my favorite iTunes playlist on repeat.

And I started playing.

At first I just sewed [or tried to sew] scraps of papers together along with other stuff and created random stitched collages “to be used later on”. I have no idea when, where or what for, but I kept them all.

Then I pulled out an old watercolor paper I stamped on years ago and started stitching around the stamped and colored images and cut them off.

Then [and here is when that notebook started to emerge] I took an old cardboard cut out and a bunch of padding paper and sewed them together. You can see the sewn spine in the photo collage above, on the middle image.

Then I wanted to conceal the outer stitches [which were far from neat] and adhered a scrap of patterned paper I had left from an old Christmas collection pad.

After doing that I felt that something is missing and decided to adhere one of the stamped and sewn images I made before.

To hold everything together I added 2 layers of glossy Mod Podge.

Here is a glimpse of the notebook “in progress” [taken by my ancient phone cam…]:

That is all.

Alexandra

Alexandra shared with me this beautiful keepsake pocket she created to remember the day she met ROBERT REDFORD. (I’m so jealous…)

Isn’t it beautiful?

In that project I spotted my stitched banners as well as my “Back to Basics” labels.

I love Alexandra…

Handmade – The Gift That Keeps On Giving

April 4th, 2011

handmade card sets

We are about to visit home soon, after more than a year away. In the midst of making all the “gift arrangements” I found out that what my sister remembers the most and uses the most is the bonus set of handmade cards I gave her last year. Not the fancy schmancy make up or the cool toys for the kids. Just a batch of cards that I made myself. What a revelation.

We are still up to our ears with boxes containing gifts and specialties, but I decided to add a bonus handmade card sets to each of my peeps back home.

As my family lives in Israel and greets its acquaintances in Habrew, I decided to create the greeting digitally and print the cards’ frame and build on it.

As for the design I wanted to make each set cohesive with a repetitive design element, in both layout and materials.

The best way for me to go about it was to choose one collection paper pad, one (or two similar) stamp and one additional embellishment.

I love the results.

To finish it off as a gift, I wrapped each bundle with a cute ribbon and infused it with love dust.

The “ingredients” are from my recent humongous purchase from Scrapbook.com after 6 months of scrap supply dryness…

Here is what my shopping cart included:

What do you think? Will all these goodies finally get me going?

Did you buy anything you are really excited about lately?

Update

At the advice and sweet encouragement of wonderful Virginia I decided to add these card set to the Moxie Fab World’s challenge. Wish me luck 🙂

April 1st, 2011

Free stitched journaling banners
This week I am sharing a set of free stitched journaling banners with you guys (for personal use only).

Journaling Reads:

O coffee, my coffee, how I love thee.

You are always there for me.
When I am weak you are there to strengthen me.
When I am stressed you are there to power me through.

I crave the feeling of time standing still,
after taking long and slow sips
of the sweet elixir.

O coffee, my coffe, how I love thee.

Alexandra S. M. – Reader Highlight

March 30th, 2011

Alexandra is an extraordinary keeper of past memories and creator of future ones.

She has a great eye for enchanting photography.

She has fabulous style that shines through her striking layouts and cards.

She has a one-of-a-kind soul that is conveyed by her beautiful words – both in English and in French.

Alexandra is extraordinary.

Fancy Schmancy labels - Alexandra
[Distressed frame is from Digi Essentials 11 by Karla Dudley.]

Alexandra sent me these pictures of a layout she created, using the Fancy Schmancy labels I shared last week. Leave it to Alexandra to take regular labels and make something that is nothing short of an art masterpiece with them.

She desaturated the colors of the label with Photoshop and after printing and cutting them, she misted the label a bit to give it more depth and a vintage touch – or in other words, the Alexandra touch.

I love what Alexandra did with my labels. She made them her own.

Where can you find Alexandra?
