You And I Share A Passion

June 9th, 2011

You and I Share a Passion

In my last visit to Israel I found out that my 7-years-old nephew loves to take pictures.

I always knew he is a talented little guy. He’s drawing and painting whenever he has the chance to do so.

He’s also gifted, but that’s just me bragging. So unrelated… Moving on.

I never knew that he also likes to take pictures.

He is so talented. He has a great eye for composition and he did a very good job with my DSLR.

Better job than mine…

In this layout you can see a photo of me taken by him with my camera and a photo of the little guy with his camera, taken by me.

[Bragging again – he’s also very cute. Handsome little guy].

Smash Books – Update

June 2nd, 2011

About 2 weeks ago I purchased a few items from the new cool concept line by K&Company, called: “Smash Books”. I received my fun-mail last Wednesday and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! There is absolutely no good reason for not updating you guys before, but here I am. Updating. Better late than never, right?

Doodle Red Smash Folio Book (K & Company)

Mod Black Smash Folio Book (K & Company)

Pretty Pink Smash Folio Book (K & Company)

Retro Blue Smash Folio Book (K & Company)

My Review

I got the pink/ pretty book because I am a girly girl.

The cover of the book is fabulous. The floral design is actually embossed into the craft hardcover.

The inside of the book is lovely too. Each page is different. Some come in a double-page-spread and some are individually designed.

Aside from the cool page design that includes: flowers, maps, wallpaper design and more they also have many pages that include journaling prompts and other graphics that encourage and inspires to use the book on a daily basis. I LOVE that!

I am not crazy about each and every one of the page designs. Some are really awesome and some are less awesome.

For list lovers, this book also has several list type prompts, such as: current memories, top ten, highlights of today and a book list. I think those are fantastic too.

I also bought a couple of the smash pads and I really like them. The designs are cute and the prompts are wonderful. I just wish there would be different designs instead of 4-5 pages of the same design but for $1.90 it is more than what I have expected (not to mention that other brands also sell duplicates of the same designs for more).

The pen/glue thingamajig is wonderful. The pen has a fine Sharpie-like tip and it writes very smoothly and the glue is great too. The idea of having them both together on the same stick is downright genius.

I would recommend these books to any one who likes to capture and record memories, stories and ideas. It’s perfect for that.

I would not recommend buying that as an alternative to a traditional scrapbook or a mini-album. For that purpose I think picking the colors and designs a-la-cart would be a better choice.

Now I want to try the doodle, retro and mod designs too!

IT IS ADDICTING.

On the inside flap of the book protector it enumerates all the things you are encouraged to tuck inside the book, I think it’s inspiring, so I’m going to write it down for you guys:

  • Wish Lists
  • Magazine Clips
  • Cookie Fortunes
  • Feathers
  • Recipes
  • Ticket Stubs
  • Favorite Movies
  • Snapshots
  • Doodles
  • VIP Passes
  • Postcards
  • Kid Quotes
  • Love Letters
  • Paint Swatches
  • Notes to Self
  • Jokes
  • Favorite Quotes
  • Project Ideas
  • To Do Lists
  • Business Cards
  • Favorite Songs
  • Cocktail Napkins
  • Souvenirs
  • Newspaper Clips
  • Reading Lists
  • Sketches
  • Poems
  • Design Ideas
  • Fabric Swatches
  • Life Lists
  • Fan Club Stickers
  • Greeting Cards
  • Swizzle Sticks
  • Wrappers

Now, even if you do not have a Smash Book [though I highly recommend it], you can uses these smash prompts and make your own book on a plain composition notebook.

Smash Books – You Have Got To Love This Idea. I do.

May 18th, 2011

They are available at the Two Peas Store.

I snapped one, ASAP, before everything got out of stock.

These are the items I got:

I will share, as soon as I get my things [for which I paid with my own money – my husband may beg to differ… hmm].

While at it, I also got these stamp sets, because they were so inexpensive and the fonts are so cute:

SO? What do YOU think about these?

How To Make A Hardcover Mini Album With Plain Envelopes

May 18th, 2011

Hardcover Envelope Book

My husband thinks it’s silly but I think it’s super-duper cute, you’ll be the final judges…

Supply

Step by Step Instructions

Steps

Start by folding each envelope in half and then cutting the edge of the envelope’s flap, in an angle, at the half point.
Steps

This is how your envelope will look like after its flap was cut.
Steps

Next, channel your inner seamstress, stack all the envelopes together and sew the spine at the crease line. You can also pierce 2 holes in the spine and tie it by hand with an embroidery floss, or fasten it with a staple. Sewing is the fastest way to assemble the signature, even for me (you will understand that remark shortly).
Steps

This is how your envelope stack will look like, if you are a terrible seamstress. Just like me. Who had to put it through the machine several times… I assume you may only be better than I am at that, because I am the worst, ever.
Steps

If you have sewing accidents… fix the spine with a layer of strong liquid glue.
Steps

Or just secure the pages with a folded piece of patterned paper that you adhere to both pages’ edges.
Steps

Now let’s move on to the cover, shall we? Given that you use business envelopes, cut 2 pieces of chipboard at 4½” by 5″ each. If you use any other envelope, just cut the cover a bit larger than the size of half an envelope (because they will be folded in half).
Steps

Then Choose your cover fabric. I had this fat quarter collecting dust and just waiting for this project. So I used it. Use any scrap that covers both pieces of chipboard, a spine and then some.
Steps

This is the ratio of fabric/ cover. Just so you will get the hang of it. Cut each edge at a triangle and adhere the flaps to the inner part of the cover with strong liquid glue. You can be messy, it will all be concealed momentarily.
Steps

Now, attach your sewed signature by applying a generous amount of liquid glue and adhering to the inner part of the cover. Do it one side at a time and be careful of unwanted spills that may ruin your envelope pockets. Because we use envelopes to embrace and utilize their pockets, right? right.

Embellish and place top secrets and cherished memories in the pockets.

Done.
