Journaling Prompt – Your Freedom (and a $50 Gift Card Giveaway)

April 8th, 2009 by Avital
Freedom

Today is Passover’s Eve. The Jewish people are celebrating their freedom. I think it is a great opportunity to explore our freedom today. To think what makes us “free” or what do we need more (or less) of in our lives to set us free.

What freedom do we seek? Is it financial freedom in the current recession? Is it freedom of love? Freedom of thought? Freedom from an oppressive workplace?

What tools do we need in order to obtain our desired freedom? Do we need some more courage? Do we want some less responsibilities? Do we need to take an initiative and leave or maybe to regroup again?

For this week’s journaling prompt lets explore our freedom or our yearning for freedom.

  • Do you feel you are living your life as a free person?
  • What aspects in your life makes you feel free?
  • How would you define your freedom? What does being free means to you?
  • In which facets do you feel deprived of your freedom? What would you like to change? What can you change right now?
  • Where do you seek your freedom? (Finance. Romance. Friendships. Traveling. Education. Career. Family. Art. Religion. Nationality. Physical abilities.)
  • What traits can help you become more freestanding?
  • What traits do you already have to assist you in finding your freedom?
  • Describe a life absent of any constraint. How would living those life feel like?

Hi, I really like your blog and I can’t think of any way to make it better. I would always like to see more crafts but truly there is a good balance of thinking and doing in your articles. I have had days that I’ve written your quotes in my journal. They are thought provoking. Thanks for having the drawing. Sally

  2. kirsten says:

    Avital,
I love your site! You are my first RSS feed…I feel so techy. After looking at your site for the last few months I created an e-journal with your prompts for my mother and myself. We have had so much fun trying to answer the questions. I would love to see more of your projects, I would love some “top ten” like journaling questions like; ten things I love about you, work, children. Ten places I would like to visit and why, ten things no one knows about me, etc. As I think about leaving memories for my children I think they would like to look back and know that their mother had secrets too!

freedom for me has nothing to do with the world we live in, as all people i am involved with are living the the part of the free democratic world. the real freedom we should all strive for is the inner freedom to be ourselves. to be creative in whatever we are doing, to be able to express ourselves without having to be afraid of how we will look like in the eyes of others, without being scared of making changes whenever we feel the time would be right to make them. this is the real freedom in my eyes.
and this freedom is the one that only you can give yourself. happy pessach and chag sameach.

So, what I would like to see more often in your blog? I guess it has to be that kind of ideas -cheap, easy and earth-friendly- along with tons of your scrapbooking tutorials. I’m a newbye scrapper and that info is sooooo welcome!
Thanks and congratulations on your blog from a spanish crafty mum living in Uruguay 🙂

Love this blog! Hard to think of something to make it better. I guess my suggestion would be to have prompts that vary, even though I already think you do. Tkx for this awesome site.

  38. Jett says:

I’m new here, but am already in love with what I’ve seen. I struggle with journaling, with knowing what to write, fearing it will seem corny. But with the prompts here, I’ve decided to start a journal, where my thoughts will be viewed by just me.

Thanks a mil for what you do.

  41. ~Sandy~ says:

Hey there. I left a link to this on a message board I am a member of but it is a private board. So I don’t think you will be able to see it just by clicking on a direct link. You would have to join the board. But it is at http://pinkyscraps.proboards.com/index.cgi in the forum for scrap chat.

  42. ~Sandy~ says:

As far as what I would like to see on the Creative Prompts section I think you are doing a fabulous job of a variety of things there. But I would love to see some more cute little home decor things. And even more ideas on how to vamp up store bought embellishments.

  43. sandyh50 says:

  44. Candy says:

I am fairly new into scrapbooking and find it difficult to deal with large printed paper. You know the ones with the big dinosaurs, sports figures, etc. I can manage to do a layout with plain cardstock/papers and the smaller prints but doing a layout with those larger all over prints seem to throw me. I would love to see some articles/videos on how to tame the large printed papers.

  45. {vicki} says:

As far as what I would like to see, inyour creativity prompts, I would like to see some prompts of using things I already have laying around the house– and altering them. I would love to something about becoming more resourceful and using what I have rather than having to buy, buy, buy!!

  49. Krysti says:

I’m here for the 1st time – going to wander around a bit… A fiskateer sent me over (Jenny) – I’m horrible at sitting down and actually getting anything on paper… To be honest i need freedom from myself above anything else.. Giving myself a little slack is something i have a problem with.. Working on, but very hard – We are our own worst enemies.. Thanks for the chance! Happy Tuesday!

This is my first time to your blog. I like it! Great ideas! I love the mini album case 🙂
Right now I really just want to see more of the site. So much I feel I’ve missed.
Love what I’ve seen so far. Someone asked on a blog once where they could find a daily affirmation or sayings/quotes that are meaningful and memorable etc. I think alot of us would love to see more of that, but I think you’ve got everything else covered.
So happy to find your site 🙂
thanks for the chance to win.

  70. Chris Savin says:

Thanks for the wonderful chance to win. Love seeing the journaling prompts – they are helpful.

  71. MizDenise says:

Thanks for your site – especially the videos! Seeing you in process has prompted me to get out some tools I never use, plus pick up some others.

The one thing I’d like to see is more of your hands on the videos – when you pull your hands closer to your body to do some detail work, sometimes the work you are doing gets cut off the top of the video. A couple of times that particular step was the part I was struggling with and I scared my family with my groan of frustration when your hands went off-camera! (*smile*)

I hope my entry won’t get disqualified because of my complaint, but that’s the main thing I’d like to see more of: you at work!

  72. BrendaLea says:

I am always looking for more craft projects (maybe). But you really have a nice variety of items on your blog. It’s so even keel that you really don’t need to change a thing. I love the journal prompts that you feed us and not sure I would even be able to write in my journal if it wasn’t for your prompts. I so appreciate all the hard work you put into this blog for us. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to win this grand prize.

  73. Barbara Smith says:

I’m so happy Jennifer McGuire sent out your blog site info so I could find you. Of course, I’d love to win the giveaway — but, no matter, I will be back often! I like what I’s seeing and reading! Thanks . . . Barb

    Dear Avital
My first time here at your LOVELY blog. Just found all these cool things to see and do. Thanks for the chance to win! Love the scraplings tutorial!!

  78. Char- D says:

I would like to see different styles of journaling, such as starting your paragraph with a calligraphy letter.

  79. Nadia T says:

This is a fantastic site. I appreciate all your ideas. I am just getting back into card making and scrapbooking and these tutorials are super helpful. I would like to see more projects using recycled materials. I liked the project using left over paper bits. I often punch out shapes from old paper bits and try to make my own embellishments. I also have two nieces that love to craft with paper so I make embellishments for them like flowers for instance. They are not as particular about the the papers matching so they appreciate funkier combinations. Thanks for your creativity.

  80. Ruth H says:

I think that many of us take our freedom for granted. I am reminded of the generations that have fought for freedoms, life, liberty , free speech before me. Hard times make us a little more reflective on what is really important. I am impressed with your blog and think that asking the important questions as you have, is one of the best things you can offer. Please continue to ask those important questions!!

  81. Sammie says:

I think you provide a good mix of techniques (love the videos) and inspiration. The only thing I would also like to see is more color prompts. I always seem to have trouble combining colors, so I like color prompts and color challenges. Thanks!
