Sometimes I look at the four seasons – summer, fall, winter and spring – as Mother Earth’s clothing. The change of season sets a change in both the color palette and the texture (fabric) of its couture.
Fall is extremely colorful with a warm palette and a thick coat of loose foliage, nonchalantly covering all surfaces. Just like a woman with long curly hair whose hair falls down naturally on her shoulders.
Winter brings in a cooler palette. In some places the gray hues tones are ruling in a classic tailored suit and in others earth wears a festive and glistening white dress – like a bride flaunting her pristine beauty at her groom.
Comes spring and the artistic spirit of Mother Earth is revealed along with the appearance of flower buds. Vibrant and colorful and beautiful, filled with anticipation, a song is sung in her broad heart – like a carefree muse.
During the summer, Mother Earth strips off of all the color and heaviness of the year and gets ready to absorb warm sunshine rays – like a beautiful diva, wearing her swimsuit and tanning at the beach.
While observing the change of seasons I have noticed that I change along with them.
The spring wakes me up, brings color to my cheeks and prepares me for the summer – my favorite of all seasons. As the air gets cooler and the leaves are changing their color and fall I begin to dread the winter with its rainfalls and darkness, which makes me feel lethargic and wish I could stay under the covers all day long.
I know for a fact that many people are the exact opposite of me.
Some enjoy the purity of winter and cringe to the thought of the frying rays of sun.
What about you?
Record your personal change of seasons.
How do you change in a course of a year? When are you the happiest and when do you wish the season should end before it started? When do you feel most prolific and efficient? Have you noticed any change?
You can take this opportunity to look at your personal seasons on a larger scale. Have you noticed a certain cycle in your life? Can you compartmentalize your life to clear-cut periods that shows significant change in your life, your personality, your growth?

Before moving to North West Australia I used to love the seasons as they were so different and affected me differently – though I loved all of them – I thought you needed winter to appreciate Summer etc but now I just get warm weather all year around and I suddenly realise I love winter and I miss it terribly but at the same time I love not having to worry about the weather when planning things since we do not get much of that!!
Great prompt to think about!
Thank you for sharing! So you say North West Australia has summer all year long? I’ll be planning our move soon 😉
(I lived some time in Ireland which has a winter all year long, and as beautiful as the land is and as friendly and fabulous the people were – I needed the sun, desperately).
I do wonder, after reading your comment, whether the place we grow up in affects our relations with the seasons.
I’m completely into fall. The crisper air, the ‘autumn vegetable soup’ that I make that makes my house smell good, the colors of the trees. It’s also all the holidays (and a birthday) and events, and pulling the boots back out. (I love boots.)
I lived in the south most of my life and enjoyed winters when I moved north at first. I sort of enjoyed being cozy at home and the snow. But winter has lost me. It’s definitely my least favorite time of year.
Nice thought-provoking post.
All the best!

Thank you for sharing, Deb.
My birthday is in October as well (10.20) but I still prefer the summer 🙂 Like a tomato, I need constant sun to grow and evolve… The Bay Area accommodates my needs pretty well. I love the weather here!
The “Autumn Vegetables Soup” sounds very interesting. Do you want to share the recipe?
this is a great prompt!
I am a cold-weather person. Fall is my ultimate favorite! I am most creative, loving, active, happy, in the Fall. Winter isn’t too bad here in California, so I enjoy this time too. Baking, making soups, cuddling with hubby (his skin runs a bit warm, so I hate touching him in summer!), and this year we’ll be able to enjoy a fireplace! I can’t wait!
Spring time is nice, but it starts to get warm and I get uncomfortable. I love the flowers and new life/growth. My creativity level is still high, but I get distracted, because everyone around me seems to come “more alive”. There are a lot of Spring time people here!
Summer is the worst for me. 110 degrees is nothing in the Valley… for weeks on end! When we moved here and I experienced our first summer, I demanded that we move back to the Bay Area immediately! “I don’t care that we just bought the house! I want out!” That was 10 years ago and I still say it every year around June…. sigh I guess it’s cuz I don’t sweat like normal people. I just get a sheen and lots of “prickly heat”. In my misery, I can’t create until late at night. Since I now have a job that starts early, there are no more late nights…lol
Thank you for sharing! I love soups as well. I can eat soups all year long, but my husband would only eat them during the winter. He’s a cold-weather person like you 🙂
