I took this picture at Dublin’s zoo. The closeness and gentleness of the Orangutans were overwhelming. The female Orangutan stroked the little one gently and softly looked at his eyes. However, what really got me was something I’ve noticed only after downloading the pictures to my computer – the way the monkeys held their hands together. I guess the need to be touched affectionately is deeply rooted…
Look at the sadly looking eyes of the baby-monkey. Can you see the way it conveys his feelings to his mother monkey? The way it asks and receives the mother-monkey’s sympathy and affinity? The touch – a mere holding of the hands – is so simple yet the impact is so immense. It is absolutely enchanting.

What a lovely inspiring blog you have. I came here from jennifer McGuire so congrats on winning her candy. I have never been to Dublin but I hope to make it later this year for a little Christmas shopping. Love the picture of the Orangutans. I am from California but am living in England for 6 months taking care of my mother after her illness. We both have stamped for many years but we sure need inspiration to get us going!! Yes, I do show affection in public – to my kids and to my husband. My kids are very close the age where they’ll feel embarrassed and forbid public displays of affection so I’m doing it as long as I can. 🙂
Thanks for sharing. I’m still on my pre-kids era… but I am showing my affection in public (and some times my disaffection too 🙂 I find it hard to smile at someone who has hurt me).
